The Surgical Research Trust was established in 1991 to primarily support the development of research in the Department of Surgery of the Wellington School of Medicine.
Today the Trust’s support has expanded to several Surgical Departments throughout New Zealand.
In 1992, the Trust developed its Summer Student Research Programme, which enables senior medical students to undertake a research programme during their summer holidays.
These research programmes have proven to be most successful.
To date the funding we have received has also enabled the Trust to support larger research projects for members of surgical teams around the country such as; The Johnson and Johnson Scholarship.
Annually we receive funding through bequests, donations from members of the public, and support through the medical supply industry. The Trust also relies on other trusts to support particular research activities.
Surgical research benefits all members of the New Zealand community and is of tremendous significance to the international surgical community.
The Trustees hope the level of support for the Surgical Research Trust will continue to grow, and allow substantial expansion of its research programmes, so that medical practitioners can develop and advance the medical profession for future generations.
